Akagera National Park is known for its rolling savannah plains, woodlands, wetlands, and lakes, creating a rich and diverse ecosystem that supports a wide range of wildlife species. Game drives through the park offer excellent chances to spot giraffes, zebras, antelopes, and many other animals in their natural habitat.
A highlight of this safari is a relaxing yet thrilling boat cruise on Lake Ihema, the largest lake in the park. During the cruise, you will enjoy close-up views of hippos and Nile crocodiles while also spotting a variety of water birds such as African fish eagles, cormorants, and herons along the shoreline.

Tour Plan
Day 1: Pick Up and Transfer to Akagera National Park
Your safari begins with a pickup from Kigali by your professional driver-guide, either from your hotel or Kigali International Airport. Enjoy a scenic 2 to 3-hour drive through Rwanda’s beautiful countryside as you head towards Akagera National Park.
Upon arrival, complete park registration and proceed to your lodge for check-in and lunch.
In the afternoon, head out for an exciting game drive across Akagera’s savannah landscapes, where you may encounter elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, antelopes, and possibly predators such as lions and leopards.
Later in the evening, enjoy a relaxing boat safari on Lake Ihema, the park’s largest lake. Expect close-up sightings of hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of water birds including African fish eagles, herons, and cormorants.
After the boat experience, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay surrounded by the sounds of nature.

Day 2: Full-Day Game Drive in Akagera National Park and Return to Kigali
After an early breakfast at Mantis Akagera Game Lodge, set off with your packed lunch for a full-day exploration of Akagera National Park.
Explore the park’s diverse ecosystems, from rolling southern hills to the vast northern plains, offering excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing.
Enjoy your picnic lunch at one of the scenic viewpoints inside the park while soaking in the stunning savannah landscapes.
Continue with an afternoon game drive before exiting the park and beginning your journey back to Kigali.
Upon arrival, you will be dropped off at your hotel, residence, or Kigali International Airport for your departure, marking the end of your safari.
