Your adventure begins in Nairobi and takes you north through Kenya’s changing countryside, from the fertile central highlands to the rugged acacia-dotted wilderness surrounding Samburu. This scenic journey offers a beautiful introduction to the diversity of Kenya’s landscapes before arriving at the reserve.
Samburu National Reserve is famous for its impressive elephant population and several northern Kenya wildlife species that are difficult to see in many other safari areas. These include Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, Beisa oryx and Somali ostrich. The reserve is also home to lions, leopards, cheetahs, buffaloes, warthogs, antelopes and a remarkable variety of birds.
A major feature of the reserve is the Ewaso Ng’iro River, which provides vital water and riverine habitat for wildlife. Game drives along the reserve’s open bushland and river areas provide excellent opportunities for photography and close wildlife observation.

Tour Plan
Day 1: Nairobi to Samburu National Reserve
Your safari begins with a warm pickup from your Nairobi hotel, residence or agreed meeting point by your professional guide from Tavira Africa Safaris.
After a short briefing, begin the scenic journey north toward Samburu National Reserve. The drive takes you through Kenya’s central highlands before the landscape gradually changes into the drier and more rugged scenery of northern Kenya.
Depending on your travel arrangement, you may have suitable stops for refreshments, photography and lunch along the route before continuing toward the reserve.
Upon arrival, check in at your selected safari lodge or tented camp. Later, head into Samburu National Reserve for your first game drive in search of elephants, reticulated giraffes, Grevy’s zebras, buffaloes, antelopes and predators.

After the game drive, return to your lodge or camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Full-Day Game Drives in Samburu National Reserve
After breakfast, head into Samburu National Reserve for a full day of wildlife viewing with your Tavira Africa Safaris driver-guide.
Samburu is especially known for distinctive northern Kenya wildlife, including Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, Beisa oryx and Somali ostrich. Your game drives may also reveal elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, buffaloes, warthogs, dik-diks, baboons and a wide range of birdlife.

Depending on wildlife movements and conditions, your guide may spend time exploring areas around the Ewaso Ng’iro River. This important water source attracts animals to drink and provides valuable riverine habitat, making it one of the reserve’s most productive wildlife-viewing areas.
Enjoy lunch according to your safari arrangement before continuing with an afternoon game drive and photography.

Day 3: Morning Game Drive and Return to Nairobi
After breakfast, enjoy your final morning in Samburu National Reserve. Depending on your onward travel arrangements, you may take a short morning game drive before beginning the return journey to Nairobi.
This final wildlife experience provides another opportunity to search for animals you may have missed on the previous day and to enjoy Samburu’s beautiful landscapes in the softer morning light.

After the game drive, check out and travel south through northern and central Kenya. A lunch or refreshment stop can be arranged along the way depending on your schedule.
Upon arrival in Nairobi, your Tavira Africa Safaris driver will transfer you to your hotel, residence or the airport, marking the end of your 3-Day Samburu National Reserve Safari.
