This private 7-Day Rwanda Primates and Game Drives Safari combines the most rewarding experiences of Rwanda in a realistic route that can be adjusted to your dates, preferred accommodation, arrival point and travel pace.
Safari overview
The journey is designed around knowledgeable local guiding, meaningful time in each destination and transparent planning. Road conditions, permit availability, park rules and seasonal wildlife movements are considered before confirmation.
Your day-by-day itinerary
Kigali arrival
Meet your Tavira guide at the airport or agreed hotel for a clear safari briefing and a comfortable transfer to the first lodge. The route, permit documents, dietary needs and next morning’s timing are confirmed before you settle in.
Akagera wildlife safari
Set out with your private guide when wildlife activity is strongest. The drive follows productive habitats instead of a fixed checklist, leaving time to observe behaviour, photograph responsibly and understand how the landscape supports each species. A picnic or lodge lunch is arranged around the day’s route.
Akagera morning game drive
Set out with your private guide when wildlife activity is strongest. The drive follows productive habitats instead of a fixed checklist, leaving time to observe behaviour, photograph responsibly and understand how the landscape supports each species. A picnic or lodge lunch is arranged around the day’s route.
Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Report to the park office for a ranger briefing, then continue into bamboo forest or the Virunga highlands for the confirmed primate experience or hike. Reliable footwear and rain protection are essential, and the afternoon remains deliberately unhurried after the active morning.
Gorilla trekking
After an early breakfast, report to the park team for registration and a detailed gorilla trekking briefing. Trackers lead the small group into the rainforest; walking time and difficulty depend on the gorillas’ location, terrain and weather. At the family, follow ranger instructions and enjoy the permitted viewing period quietly before returning to the trailhead.
Lake Kivu and transfer toward Nyungwe
Join experienced forest guides to track a habituated chimpanzee community, listening for calls and movement through the canopy. The guide also interprets other primates, birds, trees and the wider rainforest ecosystem. A wetland, canopy or tea-country experience may be added when the schedule allows.
